Takereel

macOS · records screen, window, or region

Screen recordings you own.

Record your screen, cut it on a storyboard, and hand it off. Pay once — and your videos never live on our servers. No subscription, no watermark, no one watching over your shoulder.

Record → Cut → Hand off

The whole loop lives on your Mac. Stopping the recording is saving it — an ordinary MP4 with an open, documented sidecar right beside it.

Record

One hotkey, zero setup

⌥⌘R from anywhere. Screen, window, or a dragged region, with mic, system audio, and a repositionable film-frame camera. Pause and scrap-the-last-10-seconds live.

Cut

A storyboard, not a timeline

Your take opens as segment cards, auto-split at your pauses. Trim, split, snip chunks from the middle, reorder — and play the edit itself, right in the window. Delete a sentence in the transcript, delete the clip.

Hand off

Three honest paths

A plain MP4, a folder with a self-contained player page for your own cloud, or straight to your Google Drive. Every card tells you exactly where the bytes go.

What you get

The workflow incumbents charge a monthly seat for — without the seat, the meter, or the surveillance.

No watermark, no caps

Record and export as long as you like. A watermark would contradict the whole idea that you own it.

Captions, on your Mac

On-device transcription — free, private, offline. Click a line to seek; delete a line to cut. Nothing is uploaded.

AI on your own key

Titles, summaries, and chapters run on your own Anthropic key — pennies a video, no credit meters gating the feature.

Publish to your cloud

A self-contained player page — chapters and transcript baked in, zero external requests — that lives in your Drive or S3, not ours.

Your files, your disk

Recordings are ordinary MP4s in your Movies folder with an open JSON sidecar. Delete the app; keep every video.

No viewer tracking

We deliberately don't build watch-percentage surveillance. Your recipients aren't a funnel.

Built for your AI agents, too

Takereel ships with a real command line. Claude — or any agent on your Mac — can record, cut, and hand off, while every byte stays on your machine.

$ takereel record start --display
$ takereel record stop
→ Demo.mp4
$ takereel edit Demo.mp4 blade --at 12.5s
$ takereel look Demo.mp4 --ground 1
$ takereel export Demo.mp4
→ Demo — cut.mp4

One symlink puts it on your PATH:
ln -s /Applications/Takereel.app/Contents/MacOS/takereel-cli /usr/local/bin/takereel

Scriptable end to end

Record, blade, trim, reorder, set the look, export — the whole pipeline runs from the terminal. No clicks required.

Agents teach themselves

takereel schema prints a machine-readable catalog of every command, so an agent learns the surface without any documentation.

Your video never moves

Edits live in a small project file next to the recording. The original media is never modified — and nothing is ever uploaded.
